In a morning session today, the Lagos State Court of Appeal, division, struck out High Chief Ikechi Emenike’s petition against Alex Otti of the Labour Party within the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The court deemed the issues surrounding qualification as pre-election matters, echoing the rationale for dismissing similar concerns in the PDP appeal. All points raised in the substantive appeal were consequently dismissed.
The court characterized the appeal as a significant jest in what qualifies as a “Notable Pronouncement,” given the minimal votes garnered and the attempt to overshadow candidates with substantially higher votes.
Quoting Abraham Lincoln, the court traced the concept of democracy from its birthplace as the will of the majority. It found that the majority of the electorate clearly voted for Alex Otti, rejecting the appellants’ claims, a scenario the court likened to a comedy skit.
Ultimately, the appeal failed and was dismissed, with a cost of 1 million awarded against the appellants in favor of the respondents.
