Abia Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, recently announced an enhancement in the scholarship package provided by the Alex Otti Foundation to its beneficiaries. During the 2022-2023 Alex Otti Scholarship banquet held at the Sacramento Event Centre in Umuahia South LGA, he declared an increase in the scholarship grant from 150,000 Naira to 250,000 Naira.
The foundation has a history of supporting students, with this year’s selection comprising 34 beneficiaries out of approximately 200 students who have received aid from the program in the past.
Dr. Otti emphasized that the scholarship program was designed to be entirely merit-based, ensuring that beneficiaries don’t need any connections to succeed. He also clarified that the foundation operates independently of the Abia state government, highlighting the separation between their finances.
The governor’s goal is to invest in the future by assisting bright yet economically disadvantaged students from Abia or residing in the state. He encouraged scholarship recipients to excel and maintain high educational standards.
The deputy chief of staff to the governor, Chinedu Ekeke, praised the transparency of the selection process and emphasized that the scholarship is just one facet of the broader Alex Otti Foundation, dedicated to empowering citizens and not swayed by political motives.
Maxell Umesi, the Chairman of the planning committee, thanked Governor Alex Otti for facilitating a transparent selection process and emphasized that all beneficiaries were chosen based on merit. He also pointed out that the foundation has produced several first-class students and is dedicated to nurturing accomplished individuals who will contribute positively to their fields.
One of the first-class graduates, Kelvin Ikeoha, expressed gratitude to Governor Alex Otti for offering them a brighter future through the foundation. He pledged to give back to society as a worthy ambassador of the foundation and the state.
The event was graced by the presence of the governor’s wife, Priscilla, and other distinguished guests.
