Geometric Power Generation Company is set to inaugurate its flagship power plant in Aba on February 24, 2024, aiming to enhance power supply in the region and stimulate business growth. Commissioner Prince Okey Kanu shared this exciting development during a press briefing at the Government House. The commissioning, expected to be attended by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, marks a significant achievement for both Geometrics and the Abia State Government, showcasing their joint efforts to address the power challenges in Aba.
Kanu emphasized the state government’s commitment to supporting private sector investment in infrastructure to boost economic prosperity. He highlighted the positive impact the Geometric Power Plant would have on Aba’s business environment and acknowledged the strategic involvement of Governor Alex Otti in the project since his tenure at Diamond Bank.
The Commissioner also addressed security initiatives, mentioning the construction of a perimeter fence for the Lokpanta market to enhance safety. Additionally, efforts to streamline business activities were underscored by the issuance of 200 Certificates of Occupancy in January.
Regarding education, there were updates on ongoing renovations of selected model schools and a directive for school administrators to refrain from renting out premises for events. The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eme Uche, emphasized the prohibition of unauthorized fees and reassured primary school teachers of addressing salary issues.
The briefing covered concerns about the reopening of private schools without meeting standards, and a call for compliance with regulations, indicating the government’s commitment to enforcing relevant laws. The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije, clarified the purpose of the Arungwa Trailer Park as a traffic decongestion and revenue-generating project, dispelling misconceptions about its nature.
The officials present at the briefing included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Culture, Sir Chris Onwuegbu, and the State Director of Information, Mrs. Ugochi Ihediwa.
