American International School of Abuja (AISA) has made contact with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), seeking accurate banking information for the reimbursement of fees paid for the children of the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
Allegedly, Bello made an upfront payment of $720,000 in school fees for five of his children from Kogi State Government funds.
These children attend grades 2 to 8 at the school.
EFCC officials attempted to apprehend Bello on April 17 for an alleged N80.2 billion fraud, but he was reportedly taken away by the current Governor of Kogi, Usman Ododo.
AISA, in a letter to the Lagos zonal commander of the EFCC, stated that $845,852 had been paid in tuition “from September 7, 2021, to date.”
The school indicated a refund amount of $760,910 after deducting educational services already provided.
They requested an official written request with authentic EFCC banking details for the refund.
AISA mentioned that no further tuition fees are expected as the students’ fees are settled until their graduation.
They warned of informing the anti-graft agency about any additional deposits from the Bello family.
In a statement by Greg Hughes, AISA noted that “Ali Bello contacted the school on Friday, August 13, 2021, to prepay the family’s school fees until the students graduate from High School.”
The EFCC has declared Bello wanted, and the Nigeria Immigration Service has placed him on a watchlist.
