62,479 Public Servants Including Pensioners have been Verified,11,479 individuals are yet to be Verified, Verification Extended by Two Weeks- Abia State Government Reveals

The Abia State Government has announced a two-week extension for the ongoing verification exercise for public servants and pensioners in the state. This extension is intended to provide an opportunity for those who have not yet completed their registration to do so.

During a press briefing at the Government House in Umuahia, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Dr. Mrs. Betty Emeka Obasi, provided details on this decision following the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Dr. Alex Otti, OFR.

Commissioner Prince Kanu acknowledged that some workers had not participated in the verification process and encouraged them to utilize the additional two weeks to complete their registration. He emphasized the importance of this exercise as part of civil service reforms and expressed the government’s commitment to giving individuals a chance to comply.

Dr. Mrs. Betty Emeka Obasi revealed that out of 62,479 public servants and pensioners, 11,479 individuals had not yet been verified. Some either did not start or failed to complete the exercise. She explained that a verification committee had been established with representatives from various sectors to ensure the credibility of the process.

For those who started but couldn’t complete the process or those who didn’t initiate the verification at all, their names will be published at their respective MDAs (Ministries, Departments, and Agencies) and parastatals. This list will provide reasons for their non-qualification for full verification. Affected individuals are encouraged to visit the dedicated desk office at the Ministry of Finance premises for corrections or to present their cases. Additionally, the data of those who have been verified has been shared with the heads of their respective establishments.

The Abia State Government urges all concerned individuals to take advantage of this grace period to ensure their participation in the verification exercise. Failure to do so may result in being removed from the government payroll.
