Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has mandated that civil servants and pensioners in Abia State receive their salaries prior to political office holders being compensated.
He expressed dismay over the prolonged pension arrears accumulated by previous administrations in the state, highlighting that his administration successfully cleared the backlog of unpaid pensions.
In his Easter address to Abia citizens, Governor Otti questioned why retired civil servants, who dedicated their productive years to serving the state, were deprived of their pensions for an extended period.
He emphasized that pension disbursement should not be a cause for celebration but acknowledged the relief and joy experienced by retirees upon receiving their long-overdue entitlements.
Governor Otti reiterated his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of senior citizens, stating that full pensions would be disbursed on or before the 28th of every month, coinciding with civil servants’ salary payments.
Furthermore, he underscored that political office holders would only receive compensation after fulfilling obligations to pensioners and civil servants.
Governor Otti expressed gratitude to the executives and members of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners in the State for their support, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to the welfare of Abia people.
He highlighted Abia’s improved safety record and encouraged both indigenes and visitors to explore investment opportunities in the state without hesitation.
Governor Otti extended Easter greetings to Abia people and Christians nationwide, promising comprehensive development across all regions of the state during his tenure.
