In a meeting with a delegation from the Bank of Industry (BOI), Governor Otti expressed confidence in Abia State’s potential to thrive as the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) hub of Nigeria under his leadership. The governor emphasized his commitment to positioning Abia as a prominent state for business, fostering a conducive environment for entrepreneurs.
Addressing the visiting BOI management, Governor Otti outlined his vision for Abia, aiming to enhance the ease of doing business while prioritizing the welfare of the people. He stressed the importance of governance positively impacting the lives of citizens and lauded the industrious nature of Abia’s people.
Governor Otti pledged support for BOI initiatives to promote SME growth in the state, encouraging the reopening of the bank’s office in Aba to better serve the local community. Highlighting his administration’s dedication to facilitating business operations, the governor revealed a policy ensuring the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy within 30 days, provided all necessary requirements are met.
Usen Effiong, the Executive Director Corporate Services of BOI, reiterated the bank’s commitment to funding SMEs and supporting the establishment and growth of businesses in Nigeria. He expressed interest in collaborating with the government to stimulate the state’s economy, particularly focusing on empowering youth and artisans in Aba.
BOI’s Divisional Head SMEs, Mrs. Uche Nwuka, presented two funding products, the Managed Fund and Matching Fund, urging the state to consider leveraging these resources to boost SMEs. Governor Otti, accompanied by key members of the State Executive Council, including commissioners for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Budget and Planning, and Digital Economy and SME, assured the delegation of the state’s eagerness to embrace these opportunities for economic development.
