Abia State’s Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has affirmed that the persistent issue of pension arrears in Abia State will be permanently resolved by the end of this month, citing significant progress in addressing the matter.
Governor Otti provided this assurance during his monthly media briefing titled “Governor Alex Otti addresses Abians.” He emphasized his administration’s dedication to fully resolving all obstacles surrounding pension arrears.
Regarding the delay in salary payments for some civil servants despite undergoing verification, the Governor stated that a meeting has been scheduled with the Accountant General and Commissioner for Finance to address the underlying issues causing the delay.
On the promised salary increase for Abia workers and the federal government’s wage award, Governor Otti mentioned that a committee is finalizing modalities and implementation plans, with the committee’s report expected soon.
Discussing the state government’s efforts to ensure food security, the Governor highlighted infrastructure development, enhanced security, and other initiatives aimed at facilitating access to farmland. He also mentioned plans to reclaim farm estates currently in the hands of private investors and to provide funds to farmers and small business owners at the local government and ward levels.
Governor Otti further revealed plans for the renovation and upgrade of primary and secondary schools across the state, emphasizing the importance of equipping Abians with relevant skills and knowledge for the global market.
Reflecting on the significance of this month’s media briefing, falling on March 18th, exactly one year since his election as Governor, Governor Otti expressed gratitude to the people of Abia for their support and to God for the opportunity to serve them.
