Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, is set to commence the reconstruction of the Umuahia-Uzuakoli-Ohafia road this Wednesday, as part of the government’s commitment to addressing infrastructure deficiencies in the state. The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, emphasized the long neglect of the road, highlighting its significance as a major route to the northern part of the state.
The road project has been divided into three sections, with Craneburg assigned to the Umuahia-Uzuakoli stretch, Ferotex handling Uzuakoli-Akara Isuikwuato stretch, and CCECC tasked with the Abiriba-Ohafia axis. Prince Kanu urged Abians along the route to witness the flag-off ceremony and announced the maintenance of 22 additional roads across the state.
Furthermore, Prince Kanu disclosed the government’s procurement of three new roads – Umuode, Bakassi, and Umuehilegbu – within the Ariaria International market axis for rehabilitation, emphasizing the administration’s focus on enhancing commerce and industry.
The Commissioner also revealed the government’s intention to abolish multiple task forces, introducing a single, purposeful outfit to enforce regulations more effectively. He highlighted upcoming policies to remove unauthorized extensions and building attachments in Umuahia, emphasizing the proper utilization of commercial and residential buildings.
Addressing illegal structures, the General Manager of Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA), Mr. Kingsley Agomuo, mentioned the identification of affected structures since November and emphasized the two-week grace period before the proposed demolition exercise.
In response to touts in Aba and Umuahia, Mr. Kingsley Anosike, Commissioner for Budget and Planning, and Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, assured the public of strict measures against harassment related to taxes. They highlighted the administration’s shift to electronic payment methods and urged cooperation with government-approved task forces for proper validation of payments.
