In a recent Executive Council meeting led by Governor Dr. Alex Otti, the Abia State Government has revealed its strategic initiative to formulate a comprehensive master plan for the evolution of Aba, positioning it as a mega city and a prominent business hub in the East for the next three decades.
Prince Okey Kanu, Commissioner for Information and Culture, emphasized the significance of this plan in driving the expansion project for Aba. Details of the master plan are set to be disclosed to the public in due course.
Additionally, the government has greenlit a special committee tasked with spearheading the development of a new commercial core for Aba. This initiative aims to facilitate the establishment of fresh markets in Aba and the reconstruction of the Ngwa Road market (Ahia Ohuru), recently affected by fire.
The Commissioner also outlined plans for the reconstruction of the Enyimba International Stadium, transforming it into a modern facility. The special committee has been mandated to address traffic congestion around the Ngwa Road market axis leading to the stadium.
On another front, compensation payments for the second phase of house demolitions on Ossah Road have commenced, with affected individuals receiving their due compensations.
Addressing concerns about land allocation, Mr. Kingsley Agomuo, GM of Umuahia Capital Development Authority, clarified that individuals without proper documentation for lands allocated by ABSEDA in the past should approach the Ministry of Lands for guidance.
In response to reports of a contaminated stream in Ikwuano LGA, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna, Commissioner for Environment, assured the public that investigations are ongoing to identify the source of contamination. He urged the community to avoid the stream until the inquiry is complete, assuring that the State Government will ensure the well-being of those affected.
