Abia Governor Signs Bill Scrapping Pensions for Former Officials

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has officially approved a bill nullifying the payment of pensions to former governors and their deputies, a policy instated by the previous PDP administration in the state.

The Executive Bill, endorsed by the State House of Assembly on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, has been titled the “Abia State Governors and Deputy Governors Pensions (Repeal) Law, 2024.”

In his endorsement of the new legislation on Thursday, Governor Otti emphasized the importance of governance devoid of self-interest, stating that such self-serving agendas erode the essence of effective governance.

“Prior to the enactment of this new law, it was evident from our public stance that we were committed to discontinuing the practice of providing pensions and allowances to former government officials,” remarked Governor Otti.
