Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, is set to commence the construction of the 30-kilometer Arochukwu – Ndiokereke – Ozuabam road this Wednesday, followed by the 11.5-kilometer Nunya – Eluama – Isuikwuato road on the 26th of this month.
Speaking to the press at Government House Umuahia after this week’s Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti, OFR, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, highlighted the state government’s commitment to strategic road infrastructure development. Kanu emphasized the crucial role of roads in fostering a conducive business environment and assured that the state would spare no effort in ensuring their maintenance.
Furthermore, Kanu announced that the monthly sanitation exercise for this month would take place on Saturday, 23rd March, ahead of Easter, which falls on the last Saturday of the month. He also revealed the government’s approval of bursary awards for Abia State indigenes studying in Law Schools across the country, underscoring the administration’s dedication to education.
In addition, Kanu disclosed the Executive Council’s approval for the renovation and retrofitting of 170 primary schools and 51 secondary schools across the state, with modern features including staff quarters, caretakers’ houses, and gatehouses, as well as nurseries in primary schools.
However, Kanu regretfully mentioned that some schools in Abia had been delisted by WAEC due to examination malpractices, particularly among private schools. He reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding standards and ensuring ethical conduct in education.
The Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eme Uche, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of maintaining educational integrity and disclosing that the bursary award amounted to 62 million Naira, approved by the Governor in response to student requests.
Present at the briefing were the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, and the State Director of Information, Mrs. Ugochi Ihediwa.
