In the second day of the nationwide industrial action declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Organised Labour stated that it did not receive any court order from the Federal Government or its parties to halt the strike.
TUC President Festus Osifo criticized the government for consistently violating court orders, citing the case of former CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele’s detention.
Osifo emphasized the need for responsible action upon receiving a court order related to the ongoing strike. He criticized the government’s tendency to obtain restraining orders rather than addressing union grievances directly, deeming it unfavorable for labor relations. The strike, initiated to seek justice for the assault on NLC President Joe Ajaero, witnessed widespread participation, leading to the closure of government-owned facilities and disruptions in various states.
Osifo condemned the assault as “state-sponsored terrorism” and called for the apprehension of those responsible. He expressed skepticism about the IGP’s investigation, urging the National Security Adviser to lead the probe due to perceived compromise within the police force.
