Residents of Taraba State living in areas where low-altitude flights will be conducted as part of a geological survey by the Federal Government have been urged not to panic, according to a statement released on Sunday. The statement was signed by Ishaku Kigbu, the Media/Communication Officer of the Mineral Sector Support for Economic Diversification Project.
The geological survey, set to commence this week, is part of the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to enhance geological information and data availability, supporting economic diversification.
The statement emphasized that full sensitization efforts had already been undertaken in the state. The survey involves the flying of specialized aircraft at very low altitudes in a repeated pattern to capture magnetic anomalies.
Supported by the Mineral Sector Support for Economic Diversification Project, the exercise will be conducted in six out of Taraba State’s 16 local government councils, namely Ardo Kola, Jalingo, Karim Lamido, Lau, Yorro, and Zing. The Ministry assured residents of these areas that the activity is safe and urged them not to panic.
This reassurance is especially important in light of the current security situation in the country to ensure that accurate information is disseminated. The statement noted that the Airborne Geophysical Mapping Survey began in June 2021, and despite some challenges due to weather conditions and logistics, it has been progressing effectively.
The ongoing sensitization campaign is aimed at reiterating to the people of Taraba State that there is no need to panic upon witnessing the low-altitude flights.
