NEWS FLASH: Supreme Court Affirms Fubara’s Victory

In a groundbreaking decision today, January 25, 2024, the Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by the All Progressives Congress candidate, Tonye Cole, in the Rivers State governorship election.

Cole sought the court’s intervention to remove Siminalayi Fubara from the governorship position, alleging irregularities and Fubara’s failure to properly resign from his previous position in accordance with the law.

Despite attempts at both the tribunal and the Court of Appeal, Cole’s case was dismissed on grounds of lacking merit.

Justice Ibrahim Saulawa, leading a five-man panel, delivered the unanimous judgment, stating that the appellant failed to substantiate claims of non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the election.
