The Abia State Government has been made aware of the deceptive practices carried out by three individuals associated with a specific church in Ugwunagbo LGA. These fraudsters have been exploiting unsuspecting residents by falsely claiming to represent Governor Alex Otti, OFR, and offering political appointments.
Regrettably, on June 23, 2023, the syndicate duped a resident by soliciting a substantial amount of money for his purported appointment as the Chairman of the Abia State Petroleum Taskforce. The victim complied with their demands, paying an initial sum with an agreement to settle the balance upon confirmation of the appointment. However, the fraud was exposed when Governor Alex Otti appointed a different individual for the position.
The state government expresses concern over the syndicate’s actions, having similarly defrauded three other Ugwunagbo LGA residents of significant amounts, all under the false promise of securing the same political appointment.
Consequently, the government has instructed law enforcement agencies to promptly launch investigations into the activities of these scammers, aiming to unveil their appointment racketeering and apprehend the individuals involved.
Through this communication, the government urges all Abians and residents to exercise caution and vigilance against such unscrupulous individuals and groups. It is emphasized that the administration of Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, does not solicit money or any form of gratification for political appointments.
Signed:
Prince Okey Kanu,
Honourable Commissioner for Information and Culture.
