President Bola Tinubu has authorized the transfer of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) from the Treasury Savings Account (TSA) to facilitate FCT’s developmental projects and infrastructure provisions.
The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, revealed this during a press conference in Abuja, stating that President Tinubu also approved the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission and the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat, to be led by a Mandate Secretary.
Wike emphasized that he convinced President Tinubu to endorse the removal of FCTA from TSA because it was not a revenue-generating federal agency. He emphasized the need for financial flexibility to undertake projects and infrastructure development.
Wike further highlighted that the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission would benefit civil servants’ career progression and addressed the challenge where many peaked at the Director level without the opportunity to become permanent secretaries.
Wike also praised President Tinubu’s leadership, stating that he had the capacity and political will to address issues that others might shy away from, emphasizing the importance of taking action guided by the law and conscience.
