In a bid to address the ongoing political discord in Rivers State, the Ijaw National Congress Worldwide has called upon the immediate past governor, Nyesom Wike, to prioritize peace and harmony by reconciling with Governor Siminialayi Fubara for the benefit of the state.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the prevailing political tensions, especially between Fubara and his predecessor, the group affirmed its commitment to truth and good governance. This plea for reconciliation was articulated in a statement released by the group’s President, Prof Benjamin Okaba, and disseminated to the media in Akure, Ondo State, on Sunday.
The statement lauded the citizens of Rivers State for their resilience in resisting the purported impeachment plans against Governor Fubara. It further urged Nyesom Wike to refrain from actions that could destabilize the existing administration in the state.
“We urgently call on all political stakeholders in Rivers State to fulfill their responsibilities to their constituents and desist from any further actions that could tarnish the sanctity of the office, institution, and person of the Governor of all Rivers people,” the statement read.
The group specifically appealed to Chief Nyesom Wike, urging him to reconsider his approach and refrain from sowing division against the current government under the guise of protecting his political ‘structure.’ Emphasizing the distinction between Wike’s political structure and the governance structure led by Governor Fubara, the statement underscored the importance of maintaining the autonomy of each entity.
As the Ijaw National Congress Worldwide advocates for unity and stability in Rivers State, their call for reconciliation serves as a plea for a collaborative effort among political leaders to ensure the prosperity and well-being of the state’s residents.
