The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has implemented significant changes in police leadership across Nigeria, aiming to bolster security efforts and address violent crimes. In a recent communication seen, IGP Egbetokun appointed a new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Olatunji Disu, along with seven other officers assigned to various commands.

This reshuffling of senior police officials is effective immediately, with the police chief emphasizing the need for the newly appointed CPs to showcase professional competence in their respective roles nationwide.

Notably, Olatunji Disu’s appointment as the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State comes as a replacement for CP Nwonyi Emeka. This development follows Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s accusations of some police officers attempting to harm him during an assessment of the State House of Assembly’s damage caused by a recent explosion.

The State House of Assembly’s impeachment attempt against Governor Fubara had triggered protests, resulting in the arrest of 150 youths and the tragic death of a youth due to a stray bullet from the police.

Olatunji Disu’s new role follows his promotion just seven months ago, elevating him from the rank of deputy commissioner of police to commissioner of police. Previously serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Disu brings a wealth of experience, having also served at the State Criminal Investigation Department for Rivers Command as the Deputy Head of the Unit.
